Should the hatch go all the way up on its own, if so how long should it take either way?. Mine only goes up partial and not consistent. I have a '91, how can i tell if i have original hatch support? thanks
if it only goes up half way and it's inconsistent... that's a good way to tell you have 10 year old (original) hatch struts.
The ones on my '85 are very consistent... They don't go up at all It makes opening the hatch a 2 person job (one to hit the button, the other to lift the glass).
Autozone carries the replacement struts for my '85 at $30 a piece.
The price is probably the same for yours if you are looking to replace them.
my hatch went up about halfway yesterday, best it has done, took about 30 seconds to a minute, should it go all the way on its own? how long? thanks for anyones input on their hatch operation.
My hatch opens about 80% of the way upon release. It takes about 3 seconds to complete this. The last 20% I can move by hand and the struts will hold it once I have opened the hatch all the way.
From: What did the 5 fingers say to the face? SLAP!!
Replaced the struts on my '86 2 years ago. I paid $36 for the pair from O'Reilly's. Now the hatch goes all the way up in about 3 seconds. Try spraying some silicone lubricant on a rag and cleaning the rods. Sometimes this helps.
Finally replaced both struts and its like night and day, pops up immediately. But the right one rattles bad on small bumps, took first one back but the second one does the same thing, doesn't seem like clip is tight at the back connection. I can slide it up and down slightly, tight on left side. Anyone know any fixes for this or try another brand? Switch sides? thanks
