Default Poor Performane

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and hope some of you can help me. I have an '89 coupe stock except for a miniram. My problem is at about 3000 rpm she starts to act like someone pulled half the plug wires. The first time it did it I thought I had fried the engine. But if I go back down below 3000 she starts to run smooth again. I have scanned the ECM but no obvious problems. I have also checked the fuel pressure (not under load) and it fluctuates with throttle. Besides checking fuel pressure under load anything else??

Thanks
Whiterose

I had your exact problem. Mine is also an 89. Each time the engine did that, it threw a code 33 (MAF related). Also, I noticed arching in the coil near the distributer. What I did is made sure the ground on the coil was properly grounded, made sure with the coil cap off that it wasn't arching again, and then this problem never happened again. Also check your sparkplugs and plug wires for any fouling or damage. Sometimes current can leak from the wire directly into the ground causing misfires. Also check to see if your injector clips are tight.

Thanks I will check all you mentioned.

Thanks, my scanner does not pick up any timing retard when the problem occurs. I do get a number other than zero on the knock sensor but the timing does not retard. Scanner not "seeing" the retard??

If you can run your scanner in monitor mode, what do the O2 sensor readings look like as you go up through the rpm range?
