After breaking 2 dana 36 differentials,I bought a dana 44 from a forum member.(thanks slo 65) I was wondering if it was possible to modify a d36 c beam to work in this conversion? And if so,could someone give me dimensions.Length of dana 44 c beam, front mounting holes to rear holes distance.Any help on this would be appreciated.

I don't think its going to be possible. They have different bolt locations and size differences that will make it very difficult, and not worth the risk trying.

Yes, this is done. You should be able to get the measurements once the differential is bolted in place. It's roughly an inch difference (shorter) from the 36's hole location. I believe the change is made to the tranny end of the beam.
BTW, the bolt holes are the same size. If I remember right they are 12mm bolts ot the differential end and 10mm at the trans. (18mm & 15mm wrench sizes, repectively) There was no difference in the beam bolts between my original 36 and the 44 I installed. The only mod I had to make for the whole swap was drilling out the holes where the camber brackets bolt to the housing. This is not even necessary on the later 44s but mine came out of an '85.

I was thinking it was more like two inches, but it makes no difference. In many cases the driveshaft will work also.

RACE ON!!!
I laid the beams side by side and the forward hole on the 44 beam is just about dead center between the two holes for the 36 beam. I know the driveshafts are an inch shorter for the 44 so that was my guesstimate!

In some circumstances and extra 2 inches means a LOT!
