Default California Smog Question

Does anyone know if setting the fans to come on at 212 with the Hyperteck programer will have any effect on the car passing California smog? Mine needs to be inspected this week; when I bought the car the seller put the program back to stock for the smog check,I'm wondering if I can just leave it alone. The fan settings are the only adjustment I made with the Hyperteck. I think I heard that emmisions was one of the reasons that GM made the C4's run warm. Anyone had any experience with this? Thanks

My fans come on much earlier than 212. Not a problem!

Emissions is one reason why they engines run warm... the other, and it's so hard to get it through some of the thick heads around here, is that a warmer engine runs better. You see, when warmed, the metals are fully expanded so they fit at their optimal sizing. Too cool, and they won't fit, and the oil won't be warm enough to move quickly enough to get everywhere. Exessive wear ensues.

Fan temps a little lower won't hurt anything. I always felt the fan settings were too high. I am a firm believer in them coming on at about 215 and off at 200.

I see your point, but I look at it like this: Id rather have a motor that lasts 100,000 because it ran at 180-190 and made great power:it was fun to drive than a motor that lasted 110,000 miles due to running at a "correct" temp that was a drag to drive because of power loss due to heat soak, pinging, etc. You only live once!

The problem is that a "correct" temp engine should last 200k miles.
