Default Kleen Wheels Dust Guards?

When I purchased my '93 it had Kleen Wheels Dust Guards already in place. They keep the wheels very clean and they're hardly noticeable with the wheel design of that year. I've had no problems with them in the 3 months I've owned the car. But my son, who drives more aggressively than I, reported severe fade on his last drive. He thought it might be heat buildup and blamed the Kleen Wheels -- but I think it might be something else in the system -- perhaps hydraulics. Prior owner records show pads and rotors recently serviced.

Anyone out there have any experience with these Kleen Wheels? Thanks.

I think they restrict the air cooling circulation out of the rotors and will have fade sooner with aggresive driving.

The 1993 wheels are designed to let air flow out bring the heat with them. With Kleen Wheels in place they are blocking the vanes that draw the air out. Remove them and be happy with cleaning your wheels every so often.

Agree with Mr. M. And you can go to diff pads for less brake dust. From what I've heard from others who've had the dust shields under normal driving, nothing bad. Anything more than that and there's cooling probs. And just remember, as bad as fade is, warpage is another issue to be concerned about. If me, I'd get them off.

Yep, they gotta breathe! Throw 'em in the trash and buy good, low dust pads such as ceramics. I've never experienced fade with ceramics and I do some pretty aggressive driving at times. Even in the mountains they were great, seemed to get even better when warmed up.

I can't believe that people such as Mid America and Ecklers even sell those things. They should carry a warning that states

"driving car with these things installed could result in diminished stopping power and serious injury"

Yup!

Got the Kleen Wheels off and the improvement was noticeable! The pads are new enough, and I'm a tame enough driver, that I'll defer the pad upgrade until I need to replace the current ones.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies.

I put napa ceramics on my dd A"98sls cad" and now I get tons of brake dust the oem's put out very little dust at all. On the vette I put on carbon metalic from performance friction and get very little brake dust even with sprited driving I was thinking about puting dust shields on the Caddy, would that be asking for trouble can the ceramics handle the heat better
