Intake Manifold gasket question
Getting ready to put my intake manifold back on and in the Helm's manual it says to be sure to have the water block-off on both rear sides. Now my question is....why block off a coolant passage?

The rear passage on our L98s in only a steam relief passage, note the small hose from the rear intake base to the heater hose is for steam to escape.

when you are ready to put the intake base onto the motor, before adding the RTV, some pointers:
1) use a small drill bit and dimple the block walls and the intake where it meets the block walls.
2) Use Copper RTV on the block walls
3) spray the intake gaskets with a couple of coats of Copper Gasket Spray.

Bogus, I'VE got a copy of "Jakes" How to install leak free intake manifold in Tech Tips, and have dimpled both front and rear.Have a can of "The right stuff" and some copper rtv. What's best for the manifold bolts? I've heard anti-sieze or permatex?. And for 65z01,so that's the brass line next to the distributor, now I know!!! Thanks guys!! Doug

After I chased the bolts and the bolt holes I put a little Permatex #2 on each bolt thread; no leaks yet after a year.

I would use the Permitex, too. My concern would be, that if you used anti-sieze, it would effect the torque applied to the bolt.

FWIW I have had excellent luck with permatex liquid teflon on my intake bolts.
