I did a 161.2 mile trip yesterday and got 24 miles to the gallon. Is that to be expected?

That's good to know. I'm not sure where you live, but I was on the 405 in traffic so cruise control was out of the question. According to my GPS I averaged about 56 MPH. Some place 75-80, others 0-10. I guess it may get better on the open road.

24mpg isnt bad for an 84, i have a 94 and i get around 30 to 32 mpg on the highway. And my 87 i had for 6 years got around 25 to 28 MPG on the highway with a 3.07 performance axle with the auto. Typically speeking, 84s are hopeless on power and also on fuel economy. A friend of mine has one and is lucky if he can get 19 MPG out of it on the highway with the 2.59 axle ratio and auto.
