Default Vehicle speed sensor

I checked my codes and got a vehicle speed sensor. What does that mean and how do I correct it and clear the codes?

It is a sensor plugged into the tailshaft casing of the transmission, usually on the driver side of the case. Check to make sure the wire harness plug-in pigtail for the sensor isn't just loose or something. Also, back when i used to use a Hypertech Power Programmer on my '95 it would always show a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) loss error, code 72, right after the programming. The code never returned after I would clear it, so it had to be something the programming process randomly caused on a one time basis each time the programmer was used on the car.

Follow the troubleshooting steps in your factory service manual for that code. It can save the needless replacement of good parts.

RACE ON!!!

Most likely electrical. I agree with the last post follow the steps listed in the factory manual. If not it may be the encoder (sender) or in my case the clip that holds the large gear on the output shaft failed and allowed the gear to move away from the small gear on the encoder. Check electrical connection first. good luck.
