Default Headers for 96 LT4

Hi, I'm new to this forum and making my first post. I'm sure my questions have been asked a million times but I didn't have much luck searching so I decided to post. I just bought my first Corvette, a 96 CE LT4 and I am considering some modifications. I was wondering if anyone has used the Hooker 2061 headers on their LT4. How difficult are they to install? Does the emmissions stuff hookup easily? I'm not really big on shorty headers so I am leaning towards the Hooker 2061s. If anyone has data indicating there is not much advantage to using a full length header I'd be interested in hearing it. Along with the headers I'm looking at the GM LT4 Hotcam. I think these 2 modifications along with a few other minor ones should give me a reasonable gain in performance. Any thoughts on other mods that should go with these? How does my combination sound? This forum is great and I'm glad I found it.

www.exoticmuscle.com and look at their LT1/4 headers, they are pretty much the best on the market. Also look into maybe the SLP intake (with 3 filters), a 52mm throttle body, a good cat-back, and since you have an LT4, 3.90 or 4.10 gears will give you a really good punch. As far as the Hotcam I'm not a fan, if you are going to take the time and money to put a cam in, I'd go bigger.

Hope this helps

Hey......that came out wrong
Looks like I'll add the exoticmuscle headers to my list of possibilities.

The Hookers are shorties, the ones pictured are for L98s. Also Speed Demon doesn't exist anymore, it used to be very close to me but he shut it down, thinking of opening it up in a new location but I am pretty sure as of now it's nothing.

Since you're not going wild on mods, Stainless Works makes a sweet 1 5/8" stainless steel header which would probably give you the most torque and response in the actual range in which you'll be using the car. They have all emission hook-ups and top quality, just like the EMs and TPIS. The Hookers won't have the correct A.I.R. connectors for your car. Aren't the 2061 their shorties? I think you might mean 2051 or 2049 if you're talking about long tubes.

You'll also need a set of high flow cats if you go with long tubes and then you'll need someone to connect to your catback. If you go with shorties, you can hook right up to your OEM cats and catback. I have a set of long tubes upstairs and plan to install this fall, after racing is done. I've been running Hooker shorties for 3 years or so and they have been great. They look good, sound good and keep the under hood temps down. As far as power increase, not much, somewhere in between stock manifolds and long tubes. Oh, make sure you get whatever you choose ceramic coated.

Hey, welcome aboard!

From what I've seen of dyno sheets on here and elsewhere the difference in power between LTs and shorties appears to be small on a mild LTx engine.

Here's a page where you can see some mods people have done to LT4s and the results:
http://www.grandsportregistry.com/dyno.htm

In particular check out "Robert Velasco's GS #340" for a shortie-LT comparison.

Nathan Plemons has Hookers. You might PM him and ask how he likes them.

Here's his dyno page:

Gears, hotcam, and headers should make a nice improvement.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I should have about 350HP at the wheels with the planned mods. I'm leaning towards the Hooker longtubes or the exoticmuscle longtubes, cam, maybe some gears and a few other bolt ons. I've been reading up on the computer tuning and it sounds like I'll be ok the way it is until I can get the computer done. The car came with a Hypertech tuner but I'm not sure how much can be done with that. I have a laptop and I am fairly computer literate but I might leave it all to the pros.
