Can someone explain stepped headers to me???
I'm not totally getting the concept of stepped headers. What benefits do they have??? Is it worth the additional coin??? Do they build additional power over a standard header??? Or does it just change the power curve???
STEPPED HEADERS
Stahl headers are available in a stepped configuration (multiple tube sizes in the same pipe). The stepped primary usually increases either midrange or top end power, depending upon the base header tube size relativity to its power level. Step headers are not cost effective for most types of racing and we have never seen more than 1% power difference.

Stahl's the only one I know of who makes them for the C4 but any custom builder could. For a street car? Not worth the expense, IMO. Even for most race cars unless you're a class racer and it's really necessary to extract every last bit of power, I don't really think the expense could be justified. When you get into this territory of mods, you're building something that will be optimized in a given RPM range. If I were rich, I'd have a set of Stahls, just so I could say I had a set of Stahls! Great company with a great history. I read about Jere Stahl and other greats of the time in the car mags back in the 60s when I was a kid dreaming of racing and hot rods.
