Default 96 LT4 TPS adjustment

How and can you adjust a 96 LT4 TPS. I have seen in Ecklers catalog a aftermarket adjustable TPS. Could I drill out the screw holes to allow adjustment? Do I use a voltmeter and what is the values. Thanks for your inputs.

There's no need to and even if you did, you gain absolutely nothing on a '96. The PCM will self adjust to 0% throttle as long as the TPS voltage is less than 1v (actually it may be .90v but I'm too lazy to go look in the Service Manual).

Default TPS adjust

Thanks for your reply. I kinda thought that. I just aquired this car. Its a 96 Collector edition with the LT4. It has 77k miles on it. Should I change the plugs and wires and which ones?

Change all 8, I'd say.

Ok, ok, I know that was a terrible joke. Sorry.

HOw long do you think since its last plug change? If you're in doubt, but it still runs ok, leave it. If it's not running well or smoothly, yup. Do the search mode and you'll see some recent chat on plugs like Autolite Platinums as well as others.

And how many thumbs do you have? If it's more than 2 like me, you'll really have fun changing the plugs. I'm gonna watch and help out a friend (if he'll even LET me be nearby; my thumbs proximity has a negative effect on the "plug-changing aura") when he swaps out his plugs.

Tell us how it goes.

As mentioned before, if it's running fine I wouldn't worry about it especially if it's a weekend driver. If it's not running fine, then I'd change the plugs and wires.

I like Taylor Spiral Pro wires because the come in red, they'll fit in the looms with a little work, and they're reasonably priced at Summit. Original Equipment wires from the dealer are crazy expensive. Some use MSD wires, but they won't fit the stock looms since they're 8.5mm.

For plugs some use Delco, some use NGK, some use Denso. FWIW I use Delco RapidFire RF12s.

You can go to Lingenfelter for Magnecor wires. They come in red. They are 8.5mm but will fit in the original brackets.

Visit http://magnecor.com and you will learn everything about ignition wires that you were afraid to ask!

I have run Bosch Platinum +4s for over 60,000 miles. Other people will tell you that they do not work. They work great in my LT4. I guess I must be the exception to the rule.

Take your time with the driver's side wires. Just be patient and remove anything that looks like it's in the way.

Have plenty of beer on hand and take plenty of breaks!

If it were my car with 77k showing and I wasn't convinced the plugs had been changed in the past, I would go ahead and change them. The longer the original plugs remain in the aluminum heads the greater the risk that you may damage the threads when removing them out.

Be sure to add some anti-seize on the threads before installing the new ones.

Good luck... GUSTO
