Default Headlight Motor Repair

1996 LT4. Right headlight motor is beginning to fail. Motor continues to run for about 3 seconds after lights open and close. Probably an internal limit switch. Can this be repaired or is a rebuilt/new headlight motor the best option? Can you point me to good repair instructions?

Thanks.

Everytime mine did "exactly" what you describe, it ended up just being the 3 delrin bushings inside...(5 bucks per light from mid america)..Might not be it but,Have you tried to replace them?

I have a 94 coupe, mine did the same thing. I replaced the bushings, everything is fine now. The factory bushings are
plastic and will be powder or close to it when you disasemble.

That's two recomemdations that I replace the bushings as a first step. Corvette Fever online has a tech report on replacing the bushings so I'll try it. Thanks.

I replaced mine in about 2 hours start to finish...you'll need to get a small pin driver to knock out the gear pin from the motor shaft and use a good light grease when you put it back together

Sounds like a bushings issue to me, too...

how would you know if it's bushings or (i thought they had) nylon gears - and they should be switched out for metal

mine is doing it too - and tonight, the light got stuck UP on the passenger side - and it will occassionally go down but not come all the way back up when lights are turned back on

I replaced mine last night. One side took me 1.5 hours start to finish. The plastic gear itself was not damaged at all. The bushings were dust There a two articles on the Tech Tips that proved very useful. As noted above, make sure you have a punch and also a LONG #30 torx bit. My bit wasn't long enough and that slowed me down
Light works like a charm now!

It's your bushings! Here's the Corvette Fever article. http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/33098/

Also, check out the TechTip in C4 section by Jeff Landis. His instructions are dope. It's a good weekend project. Good luck!
