How can you tell if the A/C system needs to be cleaned out? If the A/C Expansion Valve / Orifice Tube is clean,in tack, and not plugged up, this should indicate a clean system? Yes? I am planning on replacing this part, it's cheap anyway.
I understand that you can spray Brake Free throught the system. How is this done?
What parts, hoses need to be checked?
Is it necessary to replace the ACCUMULATOR or can this be flushed out?
Thanks!
You can tell if you orifice is dirty when your suction is low and your head pressure is high during normal conditions (not extremely hot or humid out). They have a little screen on the inlet to catch all the debris. If it is clogged you have other problems to worry about. An orifice screen should not get clogged unless there is excessive wear on the compressor. We usually just blow them off with compressed air. I don't like to use chemicals since they can hide in cracks and you will never get them out. You really can't flush an accumulator. It has a desicant (removes moisture) bag in it. It also retains a fair amount of compressor return oil so you if really need to remember after flushing to put the proper amount back in.
I have done quite a bit of internet research on this recently, as the triple digit heat is sometimes too much. Do some google or yahoo search for A/C. I found some helpful info. What I do remember is you do not want to flush the accumulator or pump.
Depends on temp, humidity and type of gas but aim for a high side of 2.2 to 2.5 times the temp of the air across the condensor and the low will usually fall into place. Otherwise, post what you got noting air temp; make sure the fan(s) are on and the engine is at 1200 t0 1500 rpms.
