Default Converting from M6 to A4 ???

Ive not been on in a while.. yeah yeah... blah blah blah.... anyway...

I have a question.... My ZF6 is pretty much almost shot... 3rd wont stay in anymore and it has other issues.... but still works for the most part.... i wanted to get this fixed as cheaply as possible.

In steps this tranny i found on my local car club...

http://www.fuelslut.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25995

If it won't let you view it, let me know so I can post the info up...

For sale: Fully built 4L60E rebuilt by Ken Wells. It has 15,000 miles on it since rebuild. I also have the receipt from the rebuild. The tranny also comes with 2200 Corvette converter. I also have the A4 crossmember, shifter, and wiring connecter going to the shifter for anyone that wished to do a M6 to A4 swap.

The transmission is in perfect shape, reason for selling is the car it came from was totalled.

Price: $1300 OBO.
he bumped it down to $1000 now...

does anyone know if this would work, what questions i would need to ask, the computer hookups i would or wouldnt need, etc...

basically... can this be done? or would i just be better off spending around $2K to rebuild (or get a newish) ZF6 to replace mine with?

It would be alot cheaper and less frustrating to rebuild or replace your ZF6.

I agree. youde have to buy a TC, get a different drive shaft, and do some custom fabing. i mean hey at least youd have the dana 44 already.
but it wouldnt be fun in my mind.

We did this to an f-body this past spring. The car was a 92. Mechanically it was not much different than the old days. We used "recycled" (swap meet) parts. Wiring was a little tricky, but not too bad. We simply followed the factory wiring diagram. Computer neded to be reprogrammed for the lock up. I expected it to be much worse than it was.

Talk to Eric Fischer(screen name is the same as his real name) He converted his father's '96 CE LT4 to an automatic, looks like a factory job.

As long as you have everything you need before you begin, it shouldn't be too difficult a job. Of course, I believe some reprogramming of the PCM would be in order.

May be cheaper than I originally thought.

GIJoe, if it were me I'd never consider an auto tranny.....don't let price alone be your guiding factor when it comes to a very basic characteristic of the car. If you like manual trannies, you will find plenty of fault with an auto (and I'm sure the auto guys would say the same).......there seem to be alot of folks who have autos but would much rather have a manual, but much less the other way around. the ones who swap their existing ZF-6 or 4+3 for an auto are usually the ones who dragrace as their #1 hobby, and every .10 ET consistently is worth it.

if you actually drive your car everyday and enjoy the roads, you won't be happy with a swap to an auto......well, i admit i'm certainly biased here

forego all the headaches and make it simple.....save for another ZF and rest peacefully at nights
