Default Passing Emission Standards

Here I am, blessed beyond measure to live in a state where we have to get our emissions tested once a year. (Sarcasm Switch on HIGH)

I drive my C-4 about once per month and try to keep the milage down. The engine runs like a TOP and I've had no problems with it to date.

I go for my yearly "Give The State Money, We Just Use The Excuse Of Caring About The Environment" Test and it FAILS.

The Emission Dude tells me that not running the Vette often enough will make it fail the Emissions Test and that I should run it FLAT OUT for about a day in order to make it pass.

Any of you have any ideas other than me STOMPING on my C-4, up and down Interstate 75????? I'd like to avoid a speeding ticket, jail time and so forth...I Thank Thee

Driving the car at highway speeds will do just fine. Temporarily flooring the car can be beneficial. I just wouldn't keep it floored for too long. Before you go back to get it tested again, make sure you first take your car on the highway and get it good and hot. Your car will emit less pollution when it is heated up to normal operating temperatures. If there is nothing wrong with your car, I can only surmise that you hadn't driven long enough before you had your car tested. If your car did not get up to normal operating temperatures before your first test, it would have registered above normal hydrocarbons, etc. and you would have failed.

You could always run a little seafoam through it (put it in the gas tank). If you failed because of some carbon buildup- that would eliminate that problem. It sounds like he suggested you give your car an Italian Tune Up.

It could just need to be run, or there could be a little something wrong. What aspects of the test were failed? An oil change and an air filter element cleaning or replacement never hurt.

RACE ON!!!

Also - If you only drive it once a month you probably have stale fuel.

If you want to get the engine temperatures elevated without pounding on it, try running in a lower gear on the freeway for a little while. I did that for a few miles before I hit the smog station and everything was nice and warm and passed with flying colors.

Fresh oil can help especially if your due an oil change. I agree with making sure your cats are up to temp. Last time my car failed because of a bad/worn out O2 sensor. Changed the O2 and it passed.

Here the smog stations suggest that you run the car on the highway for at least 30 min prior to coming in for the test to make sure that the car is up to full operating temp. Note there is no need to stomp on it...although it is fun to do.

Good and helpful comments from all....Thanks!

It's true that I only drove approximately 4 miles from my home to the testing station. I'll take the suggestion of doing some highway driving prior to going back.

Even when I drive it to work once per month or so, it's rare that I ever have the opportunity to exceed 55 mph because of this stupid metro Atlanta traffic. That probably contributes to the problem.

Thanks again for the advice! I can always count on you folks for help.

I’ve also seen talk about denatured alcohol in the tank. Not the rubbing alcohol you buy at Wally world. I think you can get the denatured stud at paint supply companies.
I may try this trick in Utah just to see if it works
