If it's like my '89 (or any GM I've done one on), remove the pedal for easier access and then use a screwdriver to chisel or hack off the plastic retainer at the firewall (from the engine side might be easier - but there's little reason to worry about it since it's trash anyway - just don't do anything to damage the firewall). Some have to be routed with a certain bend in them, so take a close look at how it's set up in the engine compartment or snap a digital photo. Attach it to the throttle body (or you can do that later) and push it through the firewall until the retainer shaps into place. Make your hookups and reattach the accelerator pedal.

I just did that 1 month ago. The plastic piece that goes on the gas pedal broke on my and I had to replace the cable. Remove air cleaner so you'll have access to the cable, 2 pins or something like that and the cable if off. As far as the fire wall is concern, just stick a screw driver and pop the plastic tab out, where the cable goes through. Mine was old and that was the only way I could get it out. It took about 20 minutes or so, I just had a hard time getting the plastic piece into the gas pedal since it under the dash and way up there. Not hard at all.
