Default headlight trouble

HELP! Just got the 86 coupe ready for a test run after the alternator upgrade. Dropped the hood and it sounded like a machine gun going off! Opened the hood and found the noise coming from the left headlight. Turned on the lights and headlights rotated as normal. Turned off lights, they rotated back and the noise came back. Put a little pressure to open the headlight slightly and the noise stopped. Let go and it came back. Now I have the battery cable off. What do I do now????

There was a recent post explaining your predicament. Do a search, if you are electrically inclined you can probably rebuild the motor. In the meantime - just disconect the connector/power to the headlight on the side you have the problem. My driver side is doing essentially the same thing - So I am replacing the motor.

The car is an 86, but it has been rebuilt using parts from other cars (has 92 bumpers) I found that the headlight wires have been cut and spliced. How do I tell if the headlights are original or from a later car? I believe thay were changed in 88 ? Don't want to order the wrong parts! Thanks for the help.
