Those are easy, really....

the sensor in question is a coolant sensor. Just call your gm dealer and they have them. It's a common part.

The bolt? Jeez, dude... remove one you already have and march your *** down to the local True Value and get a match. It ain't rocket science.

The bolt isn't even listed in my parts book. It shows in the illustration, but it has no key number. When I looked in the groups covering the lifters and the retainer, the bolt wasn't listed. As Bogus said, just plain old hardware.

The "sensor" that screws into the left side cylinder head, in an '87, is the axillary fan switch, part number, 14043276.

For the bolts, try PN 24501365. They're sold in packs of 8, and you only need 4... I've got some extras if you'd like me to send you one. You should also have PN 120386 washers.

Are we all talking about the same bolts? The bolts I tried to look up hold the retainer (spider) down onto the bottom of the valley. It has the eight arms that each holds one of the "dog bones" on to each pair of lifters. If those are the bolts, everything *I* have, shows only three used, not four.

If you need four of a bolt, try to give a better discription of where it (they) goes.

Yes, you probably only need three, but the description in the parts book says four, and four washers. These are the ones that hold the spider down, which is what I figured he was asking for. I got the P/N's from my GM Performance Parts catalog, p. 72, where it describes the roller lifter kit. When I bought my roller block sans spider and bolts, I ordered the pieces I needed from this section and what I got was what I needed... The 24501365 bolts are what I am currently using to hold down the lifter spider. And yes, I only used three... although there's a half a hole at the end of the spider and another boss on the block that isn't used. Maybe on a race engine?

by the strictest of defininitions, it's still a temp sensor... just cause it fires fans means little.

A temperature sensor is a thermistor. The voltage varies with the temperature and causes a gauge to show a varying, and (somewhat) proper, reading. The fan switch isn't a sensor. It is a switch. The fan is either on or off.

If your gauge had only two readings, cold and not so cold, and you had a variable speed motor running your fan, you could interchange the two, and you could have your SENSOR running your fan..

Even GM calls it a temp sensor/aux fan switch. I will look up the exact nomenclature later.

My parts book says:

"Group 1.055-Bracket-bracket Kit-Fan Kit-Fan PKG-Motor Kit-Nut-Relay-Retainer-Screw Kit-Switch, Engine Air cooling(Electrical)

"

You can call it whatever you want. It's function determines what it is. Are you familiar with the quote from Abraham Lincoln that starts out, "If you call a tail a leg..."?

He was handled in the second and third posts. This is just a little skirmish between Bogus and me.

Silly you is right. Don't hold your breath. Of course it happens. Like today with 69mako and me, but more often than not, the inquirer just fades into the background. Like this time.
