Ok guys I have a problem. My 1991 ZR1 is driving me crazy. It has 22000 miles on it. I run it every weekend .This pass weekend when I started it up it was missing and blowing white smoke out the left exhaust pipe .I thought a head gasket went, but after running a leak down test on the coolant and all cylinders it was good.I also ran a gas check on the coolant
I took the compression and it was ok.When I was checking the cylinders for leaks I found that it was pushing gas out of #1 cylinder only. The other 7 where ok. I put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and it held 53# without falling off.I can't find anything wrong .I was told that it could be the ECM.The white smoke is gas ,you can light the tailpipe drips with a match. I would like to know if anyone else had anything like this and if they got it corrected.I also need to know if a 92-93 ZR1 ECM will work in my 91.
running that rich? I will bet money you have a bad injector...
it may hold pressure, but it might be sticking open when operating. You need a "fiddle light" to determine if it is opening and closing.
As for the ECM.... from my research, no. 1991 and 1992 will not interchange, but 1990 and 1991, WILL. I suspect with the 1992, they added ASR, so that would be enough to make the difference, I suspect.
I was told by Whiteracing in Fla. that the ECM will work on 1990 to 1993
I have one coming from a dealer will know tommorow.
Whiteracing agrees with you that it is a injector. If the ECM does'nt work
I will pull the injectors next.
Well I had a grounded wire on # 1 primary injector . It flooded the cat.so much the cat.is falling apart. The 1992 ECM # 16163993 works in my 91 ZR1. Now I have to replace the cat. and the flywheel. It doesn't smoke at all now with the injector wire replaced.
