It has been raining a lot, but yesterday it was like never before!
I opened the door of the vette just to find I have a Jacuzzi installed .
What would you recomend to seal the car from all that rain?
And what do you suggest to dry the interior?
We all have some weatherstripping leaks but not as bad as you have. To dry it use a shopvac to get most of the water out and leave the windows open in the sun or a covered area(garage). To fix the problem you probably will need either weather stripping or adjustments. You need to figure out where it came from first. It is possible that it came from the well around the wipers if the weatherstripping is good. The well is supposed to have a drain but it may be plugged.Good Luck.
I think most leaks come from the area around the door windows. There are three weatherstrips that seal each window, and with each seam where on weatherstrip meets another, there's a much higher chance of a leak. Each door has two seams.
That area leaked pretty good, but my weatherstrips were beat, so I replaced them. Still had a small leak at the driver window, and I found the infamous door hinge bushings were just a bit worn on the door. Replaced the hinge pins and bushings, now I have no leaks!
If you have that much water in the car I would be checking the drain tubes.
On the passanger side where the side panel is and the washer fluid goes, their is a drain a big one,it is made of rubber with a split at the bottom .
Looks like a cow utter.
The other drain is located near the windshield wiper motor, back near the brake booster.
Vetts are like vaccums and will collect every leaf and piece of dirt on the road. They are the drains for the windshield.
And if those drains are clogged, a great investment would be one of those filters that covers the entire cowl area. Picked mine up for (I think) about $20. Aside from filtering the air that comes into the car when the windows are closed, it keeps all the leaves and debris out of the cowl area, keeping those drains virtually free of any gunk.
Check the firewall and make sure all of the grommets are in place. I had a lot of water in the driver's side footwell every time it rained and found a grommet for a vacuum line (I think) had come out, so it was just a 2 inch open hole. I would crawl under there and make sure they're all still in place before spending money on weather stripping.
Well, I checked the drains and I found the rubber tubes that look weird at the end. They were really clogged with all kind of debris.
I found 3.
One very long that goes on the driver side and is behind the battery.
Next one is short and is almost at the middle of the car and drains directly over the clutch bell, finally I found one on the passenger side .
I did put a hose and opened the water but I still have water entering from the passenger side.
Is there another drain that I am missing?
I removed the seat and carpet and then there is some kind of yellow undercarpet that really absorbed the water.
I am thinking that there must be another drain that I am missing.
Where did you get the filter? I have never heard of one but it sounds like a great Idea.
If you have a web site please let me know. Thank you all.
I think I found out the problem. Still have no real solution.
When water is pouring the windshield will direct the water to the cowl area, just below the wipers.
There are two drains in the drivers side. They are just behind the battery and to the side of the wiper motor.
The other one goes on the passenger side and goes into the housing of some kind of blower that is under the coolant reservior.
All this water is moved through a big drain that is just below the windshield.
I looked into this place and found other big oval holes that are used to suck and direct the air to the interior of the car through ducts.
I think this is where the water is entering but have no idea how to seal it.
Any ideas are really welcome.
