I have bought headers for my 85, I went with Hedman not because they were cheap but because I didn't want the later model EGR pipe sticking up off #8 header tube. Today I bought a set of aluminum heads which of course have no heat crossovers. What do I do with my manifold mounted EGR? The headers I bought have emissions hookups because my intention was to keep all emissions intact so that eliminates doing away with all the emissions stuff. I have no testing where I live but I'm concerned with engine codes popping up. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you want to keep the EGR, you will have to exchange the headers for the Hedmans that DO have the exhaust supply from the #8 tube, AND change intake manufold.
I guess the simple thing to do is just eliminate the EGR. Can I just leave it in place without throwing codes? If not, what is the procedure here? I've never messed with a car with emissions and a computer as you can probably tell.
I have removed all the smog related parts about 6 months ago from my 1988 Corvette. I have never had a code. I fabbed some EGR block off plates out of sheet metal and run a smog pump eliminator pulley kit. I just plugged the vacuum lines that came off the EGR from under the plenum. One leads to under the TB and the other goes to the charcoal canister. Just disconnect the connectors and tuck them aways.
Thank you River City Corvette, I'll do the same. What I did here seems like poor planning but I got a buy on the aluminum heads after the headers were bought. I knew there had to be way and yours is the way I was going to go but now I know it'll work. I really appreciate your input.
