I have a slight Tranny leak and I was informed that it would cost a few hundred to fix because of the labor factor. Rather than just fix the leak, I was considering up-grading the tranny, or installing a high performance one like the "Raptor." All feed back would be appreciated.

I am not a fan of mail order transmissions. If you have a problem, you are shipping it across the country at your expense. I would have a local company upgrade yours. Someone you trust to do the job right. If you are making moderate power, not much is needed to work a 700 up.
I have to echo what Pete said. I found it is best if you can have the guy that built the tranny put it in locally. When mine blew out, I drove two hours to pick up a unit, then ended up paying someone a LOT more to have it installed, only to have to trailer it back to the original guy to make it right. Would have been simpler and cheaper to have the guy that built it install it in the first place.
I think this really depends on what part of the country you're in. Around here there is NO ONE I would trust to correctly build a 700R4. My truck had a mildly built 700 (the PO bought). It never shifted right and then last year is started slipping. (Yes the TV was check with a pressure gauge).
Bottom line: I purchased a Stage II from Bow Tie Overdrive.

Dan, If be chance, you are near NE pa. I can hook you up. I have heard many good things about BTO. Only 1 negative. Not bad. They have a great website too, with lots of great info and tech tips.

Sorry but I'll never go to bto again....if you go via shipped I highly recommend probuilt.
hi
if you want a 700r done right theres only one place to go an thats Select Performance in long island NY. not cheap but will be done right. just tell them greg from blower works told you to call. just ask mo on forced induction site. he lives in Ca. they did his trans.
they are also doing mine and they stay together.
If you choose to have a local, reputable shop rebuild yours, I would be happy to offer recommendations regarding upgrades.
Sorry, for the late reply. Yes, I would appreciate recommendations regarding what upgrades to get. And, thanks to all the CF for their suggestions to this thread.

how much power?? My 94 is having the transmission rebuilt at the moment, i have around 400 BHP, and id say that if you really want to do it right, the ONLY way is to have your original rebuilt(having said that,im in Australia and its a long walk to kick the trannie builder in the **** if its not right). I went with a double row sprag unit, extreme duty 3-4 clutches, and a few other upgrades. It was allready shift kitted from the previous owner which im happy with the kit they went with.(dont know which one) Also if you havent done so allready, give some consideration to an external cooler rather than the stock radiator cooler.
by the way, forget the raptor, ive read alot of bad things about them and heard of alot of failures. BowTie OD's on the other hand only seen the one bad report which is on this post, and dont know why he wont go back...

Well, I've posted about why I won't go back before-it was lengthy....
To sum up-tq convertor wasn't what I paid for, first time the tranny lasted a few mos before it started slipping, second time about six mos-then he said no more warranty and it failed because I live on a mountain and drive up and down it! Also this was with an xtra trans cooler and trans temp gauges to confirm temps(well within norm)......along with many other issues......so if I can save anyone else the grief that I went thru, then it was worth the time spent typing this.
I bought the Raptor Jr in 2002 with a 2600 stall converter that I bought at the Bossier City, LA plant. I couldnt be happier with the Trans. It shifts strong @ 5000 rpm. The tech support can't be beat. You can see my car on the web site galler of PATC. I've put 5000 miles on it sinceOct of 2002. No problems with mine. Do what you want. Good luck.
