Default Retrieving coins from console...

Just got back from a Corvette Forum group run (SCMR) and finally found the source of an irritating buzz/vibration from the console; there are a bunch of quarters under the cupholder/ashtray. I can see them but cant' figure out how to remove them.
Please don't tell me I have to remove the whole console.
Please.

If an L98 you just need to pull the console top.

Once you have cleaned the drbris from in there install a rubber cup holder boot and an ash tray (or two boots, if a non smoker) from MAM. These will keep most trash from slipping into the abyss.

Sounds like you found a gold mine. I once bought a low mileage, 4 year old Nissan very cheap because it had some fairly significant body damage but nothing that affected function. I had to tear into the console one day and found a very expensive womens watch that was worth nearly what I paid for the car. Stupid me, I just gave it to my (then) wife to get some brownie points..... If your console's anything like a later one, it's no big deal to access the area you're talking about.

Need to do the same thing. Sometimes upon acceleration I hear a "vibration" from down below. Loose change

Hey, Jeff, you could have made my life a little easier and said," Total of three screws/bolts: one under the metal ashtray/cup, two under the little carpet/mat in the console compartment. You do have to remove the console compartment door (four more screws) to lift the console cover out. The only tool required is a 9/32" nutdriver."

At least you got me started in the right direction (even though I did have to resort to the Helms in the end).
For that I thank you.

Brings up a question: there is a metal cup/ashtray sitting in the forward hole, but nothing in the rear hole. I have a feeling the car came with something filling that hole as well...... Anybody have some sort of a cup/insert in the rear hole??

What you need is to buy a ProVision PV-636 Fiberscope and fashion a makeshift grappler from soft plastic parts.

I didnt have to remove the door to get at the front screw, however, taking the **** off and disconecting the indicator light wire (on auto), and depending how far you want to move it the cigarette lighter cable, which then allows you to actually get in there, and down the sides etc.
This is not a hard job .
As mentioned above, M.A. sells the little rubber inserts. Mine had ashtray in one and rubber cup/change holder in the other

Larry you said under the ashtray. That only requires 3 screws/bolts to be rmeoved. If you had clarified, I would have given the rest of the directions.

As far as what went in the other cup holder. It's a little rubber piece to help keep condensation from a cold coke can from dripping down into the console area.

If you didn't want to remove the cover you could possibly take some duct tape and tear a small strip, fold it to make the whole piece sticky, then stick it to the end of a thin screwdriver or telescopic magnet and snare them one at a time. Or try a shop vac right over the opening.

Coat hanger and some Duct tape. Worked for me and that's how I got a "free" lunch at McD's.

You could always just turn the car upside down and shake it.

Hire some teenagers to detail it for you. After they're done I'll bet you won't find a penny in it.

I got 2 or 3 bucks out of mine that way.

No need to remove console.

I've also got a 1996 and used my cup holder for a change collector. After a few months, I had over twenty five coins inside. Go into your owners manual and pull the console. Its a 30 minute job and you get rid of the noise and pick up a couple dollars in coin. A real pain in the #ss.

The above process will keep you from doing it again. Good luck.

Once I got my console off, I skeeted some WD-40 on top of some coins that were stuck to the plastic by spilled soda from the previous owner. It's a wonder it didn't create an electrical short or something, but it's all good now.
