Default Nitrous Purge Solenoid

To the guys running nitrous - do you recommend installing the nitrous purge solenoid as well?

Thanks!
Dan

Yes - besides the fact that it looks cool, purging actually gets the nitrous ready to hit when it is activated. If you have a wet system without a purge you will be spraying gas and no juice until the gas gets to the intake.

With EFI car wet systems that are sprayed via intake acordian pre-throttle body or throttle body plates it's almost a necessity, not an option. Not only are you spraying gas alone until nitrous reaches the intake which will richen you out and effect the performance but without the nitrous there for a second the fuel which is not properly atomized without the N20 can puddle in the intake. Now think about it, after say several runs without a purge you now have a puddle of fuel in the plenum. Whats going to happen when a valve opens while a sparkplug is firing?
BOOOM! Is what.

Purge not only helps the tune but is a safety "must have". Running without is pretty risky. We should learn from the early pioneers mistakes.

Now over purging for show in my opinion is a rediculous waste of N20. I just bump the purge button in staging after burnout until I see white. Thats all thats needed.

Great information - thank you both!

I do have a wet system for my 383, but no purge solenoid yet. I will definitely install one now.

One more question - does nitrous oxide ever get "old"? I filled my bottle over 6 months ago, but have not used it yet as I am still trying to sort out my tune.

Thanks again!

Nope!
I pump Nitrous and some have had the bottles lying around for 5 or 6 years.
Of course after 5 years I get to Hydro the bottle before it is filled and that can take up to 2 weeks and $30.00 .But I will give them one of my spare bottles until I hydro theirs.
Got to keep the Drugs flowing.

You should set up the car so it purges out the fender vents or as i call them the (Gills) that would look cool

Yes, that would "look cool" for sure. But is it practicle? The whole idea behind the purge is just what the word purge defines, to "purge" the air out of line. Not to waste N20 into the atmosphere and deplete your bottle pressure before a run just to look cool.

I'm not trying to totally rag on your suggestion. I actually thought about doing exactly what you suggested until I really thought about it. I then decided just to run my purge line to sray up right in front of the passenger windshield where I can see it. This way I dont waste precious nitrous or deplete bottle pressure by over purging. I just hit the purge button for a quick second after my burnout just enough to clear the line of air. The second I see white I stop purging. This tells me the air is out of the line and the nitrous is at my nitrous solenoid ready for action. No need to waste any of the costly juice.
