Can an old and leaky vacuum hose cause a Service Engine Soon light? I have been putting off replacing some of the old hoses and on the way to work today after about 20 minutes the error came on. Its running pretty OK, and the light went out and didn't come back on after I turned the ignition off and then back on and drove it home.
It depends on what the hose goes to and where it comes from. No unintended vacuum leak is a good thing. The first thing you ought to do, is to check to see what code was set when the light came on, trouble shoot the cause, and fix the problem..
I found 2x hoses that were deteriorated a bit near the battery. They come from out of the bottom of a round module. The 5/32 hose routes to a 'T' looking connector that has what appears to be 2 wires coming out of the other ends and routed into wiring harnesses. Is this an accurate assessment? I replaced this one and no error was posted during the 50 minute drive to work just now.
The other hose, 7/32, routes to the firewall, or a box. It appears to connect inside that box. Can this hose connection be accessed easily from under the hood or do I have to go under the dash? Is it the ASR function that 'pushes' back on the gas peddle when there's slippage detected?
Are there any other similar hoses that are known to deteriorate and cause vacuum problems?
