I am new to this forum, and have a weird stalling story. I have a 92 six speed with 90,000 miles. I was driving the other day and all of a sudden the car started to die out and then stalled. It felt like the car had run out of fuel, but the gauge was showing almost a half a tank. As I was pulling over I noticed a LO indication on the speedometer screen, but no warning lights illuminated on the computer screen except the check engine, and I think that only came on because the car stalled. Once I pulled over I tried starting it again and it turned over fine but did not start, so at this point I felt that I had run out of fuel and the fuel gauge had malfunctioned. So I called someone to bring me gas, it took them about a half hour to come, we put in less than a gallon and sure enough it started right up. So now I think that the out of gas theory was confirmed, but when I went to fill up at the gas station the car only took 13 gallons which means that there was seven gallons still left in the tank. What else could have caused the car to stall, the only other thing that I could think of is that by mistake I shifted to sixth gear at 40 mph right before this happen, but it was only for a second until I realized I did it. Could that have bogged the engine enough to stall it?, and if so could it have been somewhat flooded and just needed time to sit before it restarted. Or is it possible that what ever sucks the gas from the tank is stuck at a certain level? I asked my mechanic what he thought and he has never heard of anything like that and just told me to moniter it once the fuel level got down to that point again. This happend two days ago and I have no issues with the car since.
Same thing happened to me today but I didn't totally stall. Started accelerating and all of the sudden it started lugging. Let off the accelerator and shifted up and it was fine. Hmm? I'll be watching this post and keep you posted on anything I find out.
Thanks for the replies, I had my mechanic change the fuel filter today, and he said it was extremely clogged up. I have only owned the car for a couple of years so I have no Idea when it was last changed but hopfully that was the problem.

Were you getting on it? When your fuel gets to low it will starve the pickup of the pump for fuel. Happens in my car when I get around a 1/4 of a tank.
