My friend has an 85 corvette and it has been rebuilt a few years ago. The enigne has about 40,000 or so on it, has dart heads and is at a little over 300 at the wheels right now so its a pretty strong car. He is thinking about putting the bottle to it since i just did it to my C5 and he loves it. What is a resonable and safe shot to run on it and how do they genrally hold up to it.
I'm spraying a 125 shot on my near stock L98 without any timing retard and doing well. It sounds like your friend may be built up a bit and may handle more with forged parts but with cast/stock parts I would keep it at or under a 150 shot and retard timing 2 degrees at wot at any higher than 125 shot and maybe run some cooler plugs with a recessed electrode.
Now if he's built with forged crank and pistons ect. he may be able to go higher.
Ahhhh yes, I knew that about the 85, but forgot it momentarily.
Man, ageing sucks sometimes. Can I blame it on Heineken? Lets see, there's about 11 green bottles in the trash...hmmmmm, yes I think I will place the blame there this time.
If it's done properly, i would think a 125 shot would be no problem. if he's all ready making 300 RWHP, you might want to look into hopw much HP his stock fuel system can support. If it'll only support 400 RWHP, a 125 shot is too much.

No problem - You can blame it on Heineken.
The medical term is Heinekenheimers and it it most likely to strike after consuming masive quantities of the Heineken.
Actually it is one of the most successful ways to loose one's memory or it has been known to cause the loss of good judgement as well.
Drink on good budy!
I almost forgot - C-4's handle nitrous better than most handle Heineken.

Since the pistons are forged, I'd be more worried about the heads and head gasket. I think that will be the first to go if anything does go on it. The crank should be able to handle a 200-shot given 300 NA. A 200-shot is a heafty shot for the clutch and tranny, they will likely be an issue if your running sticky tires.

Yeah, considering I hardly ever drink more that one or three and it was just a friends birthday celebration. I was pretty blown.
I started spraying my slightly modified '87 with a 100 shot, now I'm spraying 150 without any problems so far. Motor & tranny have been worked on, along with solid Spicer U-joints... Still running original Dana 36 with over 220,000 miles on the clock! I'd say you'd be safe running 100 - 150 without too many modifications, but I'd still take a few precautions such as rev limiter, wide open throttle switch and purge kit. Upgraded fuel pump, rails and injectors would be nice but probably not required.
