I have a LT-4 and am thinking of going to 4:10 final drive. I would like to hear from forum members who have made this swap. Is it a worthwhile change? Does anybody have a estimate of what the total cost would be to have a shop do the work, and recalibrate the spedo?
The car is not a daily driver, and is mostly driven on the Cal coast.
The car still gets 28 mpg, and is only turning 1800 rpms at 70 mph.
Mine barely gets 20 MPG - I don't understand how you can get 28 mpg with 4.10. And I believe that my 3.73 go 1800 or so at like 50 mph. I guess that 6 speed really saves the rpms.
I got 25.5mpg on a recent 800+ mile drive to Medford, OR and back... with the 4.10's (doing 80-90mph to entire way). I was really impressed that the gas mileage didn't suffer. Around town driving I usually get between 16-17mpg.

They're fun on the street but not good on the track. 2nd's too low for any corner, I run out of 3rd at just about every short straight, and hitting 4th only makes sense on the longer straights. It's on my list of things to change (probably down to a 3:47), but you're asking about you, not me
For cruising the coast you'll probably like them just fine. Even though it really isn't, the car will feel faster "seat of the pants."
The shop near me, DTS (they're pretty well known, at least east of the Mississippi), charges about $800-1000 parts and labor, depending on what parts you choose.
