I did a muffler elimination on my 95 convertible. A local shop cut off the mufflers and welded 2.5 " pipes in their place. They then welded the tips to the ends. I like the sound and looks. I went back to the shop to see if they would cut off that middle piece and exchange it for an x-pipe. I believe it's called a resonator or middle muffler. They said they could not do it because of emission laws. Is that true? I live in an area in Louisiana that is very lienant on emissions. I have never been tested before. They said they would do it if it was only used off road and towed to them. Sounds a little ridiculous but I may do it. What is the function of the middle resonator anyway? Will I get error codes if it's removed? What about increase in resonance? How will it effect performance with an x-pipe instead? I'm willing to sacrafice a little hearing for performance and a meaner sound. Thanks in advance.
Your LT1 has two catalytic converters up near the manifolds on either side. The center resonator just serves as another muffler and serves no emissions function at all.
Anyone ever heard of or tried the following companies x-pipes or chambered mufflers? http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chamber...in.html#custom
Thinking of maybe combining the custom chambered mufflers and x-pipe and removing the middle resonator? Or maybe just removing the resonator and putting in the x-pipe? I like your custome setup too but I'm looking for as little restriction as possible. Someone once told me the pipe inside that resonator is only 1" in diameter.

Reason: spelling
Has anyone seen the inside of that resonator? I am curious to know what diameter it is and whats in it? If it is highly restrictive seems like removing it and balancing it out with an x-pipe would have to make some difference in performance. Noise? I like noise. That means I'll just have to get a new sound system. I can't hearing anything with the top down anyway. Thanks for the input though. I am also going to look into the Magnaflow although it's kinda pricy compared to a simple weld in x-pipe.
