Ok
You are in for it
What are you removing and why?
I recently had a mishap which required replacing the entire front bumper assy including parking llights, brackets, spoilers and wheel wells
What would you like to know?
E mail me and I can try to talk you through it! The Helms shop manual makes it sound pretty easy. getting it off isn't bad, getting it back is a PITA, depending on what degree of replacing you are doing
Any pics and info would be greatly appreciated. AT first i was going to have new lenses put in the front ( fog lamp housing lenses). i noticed they didnt look too easy to remove and figured the bumper would have to be removed. i jusyt recently had my plate cover painted and side fenders painted. Ferrari of Maranello up here in Toronto did such an amazing job i need to have the front bumper painted to at least match the plate cover. Besides that there are numerous mini rock chips etc and spider webbing starting after someone bumped me lightly last year. i never had faith in any body shop until these guys painted my parts and had me drolling to have the whole car painted... sorry for the long blab
Anyhow i need to have it painted so its gotta come off... i have heard a few horror stories of aligning it up properly etc etc.... so Please tell all i need to know !
(btw i am mechanincally inclined... i do ALL work on my car except for having the motor pulled.. i just never removed the bumper and thought id ask for some helpers first)
My 89 Helms manual goes through the details and the removal is not too bad. However, the installation requires some alignment of many parts so that the spaces between the bumper and other parts is consistant. If you want me to fax you copies of the Helms instructions, send me a note to samlam@charter.net

To pull off the front bumper take a ;picture of all the corners and the bolts under the car in the center.
Remove the metal piect that is behind the hood and then go to the inner panels in the front after you remove the tork bolts in the inner fender wells and then back under the car to remove the center bolts and the ones back by the radiator that hold the 2 lower left and right panels.
When cover lose then you have remove the 2 metal panels holding the side marker lights in.

It can be painted on the car, with lots of care in masking, etc. I would recommend that!
You can't replace the parking/driving lights without reoving the bumber skin, bot you can remove/replace side marker lights
It is pretty easy to remove the bumper skin as it says in Helms, but it is virtually impossible to put it back without removing the entire bumber assy
When these things were built, the bumper assy, including Impact Bar, honeycomb, skin with all lights installed, arrived at the assy line in one piece.
IMHO and based on the experience of just having gone through this, that's the best way to do it
I have found that we all have different experiences with working on our Vetts and see things from different viewpoints....and that is what is so wonderful about this forum.
I have removed the bumper skin three times in two years from my 89 and did not have to remove the bumper assembly. It is not a cake walk to get it on, but just take your time and use two people to get the skin started in the correct orientation. The Helms manual guides you through the removal and installation!

Just repaced my 94 after painting...be carefull and do use 2 people to remove/refit, but it is a simple job really. keep a photo of before re alignment as the others members have suggested..it does make realigning a lot easier! Now that I have done it 4 times ( bad paint jobs showed up after a week ) it actually takes me only 35 mins carefull work to remove and a bit more to refit ( but I did renew several spire nuts at the same time )
Best of luck
