I have had an ongoing problem with my 85 vette. I picked up an "Actron" scanner, hooked it up and seem to be getting some weird readings.
The BLM starts at '0" and goes up t0 "255" and then starts over again, and again, and, well, you probably get the idea.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this cycling, or whatever the devil is going on?
Sounds like your scanner isn't reading the engine parameters correctly. 0-255 is O2 sensor cross-counts. BLM should be a number that is between 108 and 140(I think the high end is 140). The BLM will change slightly when the throttle is varied, but should stay pretty constant at a given throttle position.
I have an Auto-Xray that does not read my '86 very well. I talked to an AutoXray tech and he admitted the AutoXrays don't talk well with the '86 for somereason or another. I still use it for codes and some of the reading s are valuable.
BLMs are how much correction the computer has to make in order tom maintain appropriate air/fuel mixture. BLMs vary from 108(rich) - 160(lean). L98s are happiest with a BLM of 128.
You're not the only one with screwy BLM's! My 85 is the same way and I have hooked up my brother's AutoXray 5000 with little success however I did make progress by reading it through a serial cable to a laptop and WinALDL. Check the scan and tune section and read some of the posts in there. I still have not figured out my problem but forum member Morley gave me some things to look for in leaking fuel injectors. I hope to make some progress soon. Good luck!!!!
