Finally ran my car today, with the new /old combo. It was the same basic set up with a cylinder head change and a 1/4 point bump in compression. Trans was freshened and converter was replaced. The old converter was an 86 vette h/s unit that stalled about 2300-2400 rpm. The new one was supposed to be a 2200-2600 stall.
The new one would only go to 1700. Car bogged out of the hole and ran a 12.73 @110. 2nd run was 12.75 @110 the remaining runs varied from 12.69- 12.75. Very poor, to say the least. Conditions were horrible, as was my 60'. My typical 1.625, became a 1.825. I assume the converter was the cause of this. Based on time slips from a similar (bad weather) day, I feel my old combo would have went 12.48 @ 109
On the second run, and all runs after, the crankcase pressure was popping out the dipstick again . I hope it is because the oil was overfilled by 2/3 of a quart. Car does not smoke at all so I am hopeful I have a good ring seal. A leakdown will be done after the engine hits 1k. Only 275 miles now. Also, on the last run, I thought I heard pinging. So I lifted. Block leard shows 108,indicating a rich condition.
Rich, yet ping. I am confused. I have some homework to do.
