I am going to have to replace the convertible top on my '92. I believe I saw or heard of a video that shows how to do it. Does any one know where I might find a copy of it? I would like to see how difficult the top replacement is.
Replacing the top is not difficult, but you do need to know what your doing. I have a copy of the video your talking about and it helped me get good results. Unfortunatly there is no longer anyone selling that tape that I know of. I would offer to dub the tape for you, but I only have one VCR. If you can't get your hands on a copy IM me and I might be able to hook you up.
Thanks for the offer. I'll keep trying to find one. How long did take you to do it and where did you buy the top. I want to replace the black cloth with the same top but I have seen a real range of prices. The top that is currently on the car is only about 4 years old but has separated along the bottom edge of the rear window. I bought the car with this top on it but it never seemed to fit very well.
Sounds like my story. I bought my car and it looked like it had a new top (it did), but they installed it wrong and did not leave enough material to fold over the rear bow. The first trip down the freeway and the top pulled free of the bow.
Plan on two days. It took 8 hours just to remove and prep for the new top. Included in the 8 hours was a beer run .
Lay the new top in the sun the day you plan on installing. These tops stretch when they get warm, put it on when its cold and it will end up with a bunch of sags and wringles. If you put it on after the top has set in the sun for awhile then when it cools down it will tighten up.
After you replace your ragtop, drop me a line and let me know how it went. Mine is getting close to needing a replacement, and before I take the old one off and THEN realize Im in over my head, I would like to see how hard you thought it was.
