i have a 1996 lt1
and the best part is
it being OBDII as bruce said.
emmissions are a breeze. and you can use LT1/4 edit for tuning purposes.
lt4s can beat stock C5s. its a great starting block.
1996---97500 trouble free driving. The OBD11 give you an open line to whats wrong with the vette. The opti is vented for added life. Get a low milage 1996.

No.
They can't.
Now, back to the original question: sounds like you would be very happy with a '92-'93 C4. You can find them with 30-40K miles in your price range. You don't need the additional performance/price of the LT4.
Check the C4 For Sale forum here...you should find several nice possibilities. Good luck!
Top speed, no,0-60 about even,1/4mile with the 97-00,01-04 its a drivers race.BTW,copper mettalic was available only on 94's.and for 17K you can get a nice LT4 with mid miles,or a nice 95 conv.look on www.autotrader.com
