Default Alternator parts question

I have an 87 with a cs130 alternator. I was told parts are not available for repairing these units. In the old days(10 years ago) Rebuild kits were available for the older, more common internal and external regulator alternators. They were dirt cheap. $15 -20 or so. I had excellent luck doing my own rebuilds, and would like to run down a kit similar to these. Anyone have a source? Other than the dealership.

Greg, great link! Exactly what I was looking for. I honestly did not expect $15-$20 I was just reminicing. Thanks for the link.

I've owned an '86 coming up on 14 years and it got to where I could count on replacing the alternator every year or so. I picked up a second one and keep it handy for long trips along with tools. New rear bearings and diodes (everytime) picked up at a better parts store, no problem.

I think the Iceberg rear half would help out alot.

That's a bunch of bull. Who told you that? I know the Haynes manual says that. It's wrong. Go to Autozone or Kragen (Checker, Schuck's depending where you live) and they have a CS-130 alternator rebuild kit that consists of a new brush assembly, new bearings, new screws, grease, and a new rectifier assembly. They have it listed as an "alternator repair kit" The voltage regulator will have to be purchased seperate, it does not come in the kit. Almost any major autoparts store carries one. I rebuit my own using this Autozone kit in the garage, and bought a new voltage regulator seperately. It holds charge near or above 14 volts. Works better that new. Very reliable in well over a year now. Kragen also carries the same one. The instructions are very good if you even need them. The rectifier looks a little different than the original, but fits perfect and works perfect in the CS-130 alternator.

This kit is Victory Lap PN#GMA-03
Any major parts store who carries it will be able to pull it up for you with this number. This kit will give you everything that kit in the above link does minus the rear alternator case and you can go buy it locally.
It costs less than $40.00.

I'm not one to use cheap azz parts in my Vette by choice, but the Autozone alternator rebuild kit made my alternator work better than new and I have not had a single issue since rebuilding it when it died well over a year ago. This kit has proven quite reliable.
