What rpm does your trans make the 1-2 shift while at WOT?

Mine makes the shift @ 5800.This is with a great tranny builder tuning the shifts and firmness in the tranny. Not the shift but the firmness and speed of the shift.Hope this helps

At WOT my '85 tends to shift somewhere over 5000 I'll have to check after work today. It seems too high, alot of times I'll let off the gas and let it shift earlier. I adjusted the TV cable as per the factory manual.

I remember reading somewhere that by pulling the TV cable out another "click" will make it shift sooner. I don't think that's good for the tranny since the TV cable should be "set" rather than constantly adjusted.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

My 86 changes at about 5200, way way too much.
If anyone knows how to get around this I love to hear it.

Thanks to all who answered, I guess mine is about the same as yours but mine shifts about 5500-5700 and that is waaay to high. I would also like to hear of a way to drop it down. I did adjust the tv cable which helped some, it was shifting at 5900! I really don't feel safe "playing" with the tv cable setting. If anybody knows of a way to drop the 1-2 shift down around 5000 please let us know.

You can change weights in the governor to tune the shift points. Get a B&M governor kit and experiment with it till you like it.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I have never worked on auto trannies. Where are these wieghts in the box ?
Do you have to pull the tranny or can you get to them whilst its still in the car

Thanks for the education

There is a round cover on the drivers side near the back. Its a press fit so you have to use a hammer and a long punch to tap on the edge to get it out. Once the cover is off just reach in and pull out the gov.
Its really not that hard, but the exhaust is in the way and its sort of a pain to get the cover back in. Good luck.

Thanks, Spankyellow, I figured it had to be something like the governor and trial and error to boot. I don't race the car so I guess I'll just live with it.
