Default Keisler (Tremec) speed setting

For anyone that is interested and did the tremec 5 speed swap from Keisler, I have successfully recalibrated my Speedo with the Dakota Digital SGI-5.
First off I love the 5 speed, wish I had done it years ago. I also installed an Aluminum flywheel. I was leery about doing this because of all the negative comments about starting of in first gear. I have noticed very little difference in launching. My car had the 4+3 flywheel and stock motor.

After installing the 5 speed, I hooked up the interface to the wiring harness going to the dash. Ground and power are from this harness. The yellow wire coming from the 5 speed to the dash was cut and the converter was spliced in to the harness. The ad for the transmission says that the box is preset for the application. Yeah right. I took the car out for a test and at 1500 rpm I was doing 162 mph. Wow this is better then a supercharger. Then I noticed that I was being passed by SUV’s. Not good.
The original setup was all switches off (down position). The speed wire to the dash was coming out of out 1 One thing I learned was the output to the dash must be AC not OC.

After searching the web and asking for help from various places and getting nothing I played around with the switches.
Bottom line is the first switch is off and the rest are on. The wire coming out to the dash is from out 3. The course setting was 9 from the factory. I made it 5 but the speed was too low. I changed it to 7 and that was in range. I took it out for a run and used the up button to get to the correct speed.
The only thing left to do is fine tuning the speed by following another car.
I hope this helps.

Bill, I also have the 5speed installed and I love it too, but I can't seem to get the calibrator installed correctly. Had 3 shops look at it and can't figure it out, You would do me the BIGGEST favor if you could give me a wire diagram of which wire you ran where from the calibrator. I would REALLY appreciate this, its been an ongoing project I haven't fixed yet. The MPH stays lit up at "0" all the time. I called keisler twice and they cannot help me out!! They don't have a wire diagram, except only what dakota provided, which doesn't give the color wire coming out of the ecm.

Hay Chillcat I feel your pain. When I get home tonight I will fire up the computer and try to remember how to use my scanner. I have an 88 the wireing for the cluster should be the same. The digagram will show the connector and what wires go into it.

Bill.

Can you just shoot a couple of digital photos of the wiring - I need to do this also.
To correct and dial in the speedo instead of having another car follow you - you might consider just using a handheld GPS unit - accurate and you can do it all yourself in real time.

Also it seems to me that somewhere in the instructions there was a blurb about what the orientation of the switches needed to be - based on what your speedo was doing before you put in the calibrator - mine shows me getting to 156 or 162 miles per hour before I get out of the school zone - great for cockpit photos - but not so good for the open road!

Hi Carl,

I can send you the scanned pages from the helms manual if that is ok. I do not have a dig camera. I also indicate in my write up the wires that are used.

If Ok just sent me an email and I will send one back with the info.
