I'm have some strange noises at the back of car. It is a 1990 vert. I think it is u joints, 73,000 miles maybe time for a change. The wheel bearing may also be going bad, the right side is a little loose. I will check this weekend. I have not had the car long. My first c4.
1. The auto parts catalogs show standard u joint and performance u joints. We do not drive the car hard. Is one better than the other?
2. The wheel bearing lists only wheel hup assembly. at about 190 to 200 dollars. Is this what you need to change wheel bearings?
3. My brake lite just started to come on, the peddle is starting to go soft. There is no brake fluid leak so I guess it is a master cylinder. Any suggestions on the best Master to buy? Is remanufactured OK?
What Kind Of Noises Do You Have? Is Yours An Auto Or Manual Trans?
Re The Brakes, Id Check The Pads. If They Are Low, The Peddle Gets Soft And More Fluid Leaves The Master Cylinder To Push On The Caliper. Could Just Need Pads.
You will need Spicer U-joints, cold forged, no zerk fittings. Get those from Tom's Differentials. Website is same name, approximately.
Wheel bearings on our cars are sealed hub units, which is why they are so expensive, I would only get a name brand like Delco, but others like the Pepboys unit.
Reman MC should be fine, but I would buy it new. It lasted this long.
Try "The Last Detail". For my 89 I got Delco u-joints (no zerk) and US-made wheel bearings (non-Delco) from them at good prices and good results. I was told they have more returns on the Delco bearings vs the other US-made ones they sell, but I don't know who actually makes the Delco ones.
