Default Just installed C5 front brake conversion

I just installed the Z06 brake conversion to the front of my 35th anniversary and all I can say is that it is fantastic. Hard braking and cornering have greatly increased. I am using C5 wheels for clearance, but I have the rear calipers and rotors etc. I am looking for someone who makes a rear hub so I will have an operational park brake when I do the rear conversion. I know of a couple of companies that make the caliper adapter but I havent seen anyone who makes the parking brake mod yet....anyone have any info on this?????

Congrats on the install. I don't have info on your e brakes parts so here's a bump.

I too did the C5 conversion and love the brakes. From what I've heard it's not really worth the effort to install the C5 rear brakes. They are not much different than the C4 and you lose the parking brake.

They are basically the same from c4 to C5 and youdo have the parking brake hazzle

If you want to bring the rear brakes into the equation in a bigger way, install the DRM brake bias spring. Changes front to rear ratio from say 70/30 to around 60/40 (numbers aren't exact) and keep your stock C4 rears

cool,

then I could use a drilled and slotted rear rotor and change the spring in the master cylinder to achieve the same effect, I plan on running the car in an autocross or two. I am also thinkingof going to a dot 5 brake fluid.

Thanx for the info....

don't use DOT 5 silicone fluid, but definitely buy the bias spring.

Will you guys post pics of how they bolted up please? I'm going to do this as soon as I get my '86 back from the paint shop. I already have the parts for the front from VPB and matching rotors for the back (also from VPB of course). Additionally, VBP is going to paint my rear calipers to match their fronts and you don't even even have to disassemble them. Take them off the car, ship them and get them back in a week.

I use the Valvoline Synthetic product and love it! It is difficult to burn it up

You probably know a lot more about Auto X than I do, but i was under the impression that up grade to C5 brakes put you in a much tougher class

They're great, ain't they? I think it's General Dynamics who makes the rear conversion stuff but it's very expensive and as stated, probably not justified because of that and minimal benefit. Definitely install the bias spring! It's a great mod even on stock C4 systems.

great.....

sounds like I will sell my z06 rear stuff and upgrade to the drilled and slotted rear, change the bias spring and look intot he valvoline synthetic fluid. The only reason I was thinking about the dot 5, that is what I use in my suprcomp car and it stops me after an 8 second run...

Thanx for all the great input guys and hopefully see you at the labor day gathering in bowling green...

I also just ordered C5 upgrade kit for my -88. Had to buy C5 rims also to get the calipers to fit. Should look nice with chrome Z06 motorsport 17"/18"
