I took this 90 in on trade and I'm trying to fix the problems. The transmission wants to shift into overdrive right away (approx 15 mph) and the car doesn't like to shift down unless you mash it to the floor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Set it, or reset it to specs. DO NOT use the TV cable to tailor shift points or shift quality. Do do so, can easily cost you a transmission.
RACE ON!!!
This cannot be said enough. An improperly adjusted tv cable will affect shift points, however, it is the governors job to set the part and full throttle shift points. Tranny shop owners love the guys that use the tv to set shift points. Guarantees repeat customers.
Any shop manual will describe tv adjusting procedure, It involves (with engine off) pushing and holding in, the tv button located at the throttle body linkage. Then pull back the tv cable towards the rear bumper till it stops. Release button. By hand, open the throttle completely. You will hear the tv cable click like a ratchet. It is now adjusted. Governor is located behind a round cover on the side of the trans. It is "normally" not serviced. If need be, you can remove it, check to see that valve moves freely and gear is good. Gear, if needed can be changed. Governor, if needed, can be disassembled and cleaned. Governor is also available as a complete unit if it is needed.
