I have a 91 coupe and i need shocks. I have Selective handeling and am looking to get new one's this weekend and dont know what to go with. Any help would be nice. For a good laugh i called the dealership and they told me $905 each +tax AND instalation on the rear...and $527 each + tax AND instalation on the front.
Bilstein will rebuild your FX3 shocks for you. The can do a stock rebuild or provide different dampening rates depending on what you need. Call Bilstein in Poway CA at 1-800-537-1085. Ask for the service dept and either Jack French or Bill Hindorf.
IF the gears on the top of the shock rod are OK and the rod is in good condition, it should run around $100 per shock. The work will take a couple of weeks to do.
If you need to keep driving your car in the meantime, get a set of KYB Gas-A-Just shocks from Summit Racing for around $30 each. These are even a good replacement if you don't want to keep the FX3 (and it's a great system ) or want to save up for the cost of the rebuilds.
Doug Rippie Motorsports also has replacement controllers (located behind the driver's seat) that uses a swappable PROM so you can even further adjust the shock stiffness.
I have to say that Jack at Bilstein is a real stand up guy. Helped me out in a pinch this last week to rebuild my DRM coilover shock. And I think he may not be in the best of health right now so everyone think good thoughts for the guy. I'm sure he could use it.
