Burping the LT-1?

Default Burping the LT-1?

A friend asked me to help with flushing and changing their coolant. My car is an L98 though, to get the air out of the LT-1 is anything done different? Thank you!

What year LT-1? 92-93 (have 2 bleed screws).....I think they went to only 1 in 94 .....Anyway, It helps to get it jacked up in the front so the radiator is a little higher than the engine. Fill with bleed screw(s) open and close (lower one first) each when a steady stream of coolant comes out. Be sure to put rags under the screws to protect the opti.

The LT1 has a huge advantage - at least in the Vette - and that is the surge tank on the firewall.

Fill the tank, start the car and keep filling the tank until it stops sucking coolant.

As the t-stat opens, the engine will draw more coolant (this is assuming the system is nearly bone dry), and keep adding it.

Once the flow seems to be established, then burp it, but it should be ok.

On 1992/93 LT1s, there are burp screws on the throttle body and the top of the t-stat housing. I always used the t-stat housing burp only. This is especially true if the TB bypass has been performed.

With one difference I ensure the overflow is filled at least to the cold level and shut it down and let it cool. Then I check the expansion tank and overflow and fill if necessary.

'94 LT1 also has two bleeder screws. I recommend using both.
