Well, the project (86 coupe) is almost ready for the road, the runs great but needs a windshield before the safety inspection can be done. And the wife took away my credit card because I spent too much on the car already. (anyone else feel my pain?) Don't have the kazillion $$$ they want to install a windshield, but I found a glass place that will replace it for $195 if I remove and reinstall the trim and weather strip myself. All they have to do is lift out the old and set in a new one. This is not a show car or a daily driver. I bought it with no motor and nothing much is original. The new motor runs goooooood. The purpose of this car is to take it out on the back roads in the Hill Country and drive. Anyone see a problem reinstalling the weatherstrip and trim? I figure "anything they can do, I can do better" Any advice?
I do this for a living, and if I could get the customer to install the mouldings and weather stripping and all I had to do was put in the glass I'd be skipping down the raod one happy s o b.
These cars suck to do and it is beacuse of the mouldings. Chevy used RTV to keep the leaking down to a minimum, but over time this stuff is like glue. You'll bend the crap out of them if you don't know how to get them out.
Do yourself a favor and get $100 deductible comp insurance and call a pro to do it right.
Moulding came off easy. Now all I need to do is clean everything up. Looks like a good time to sand and paint the little pieces while they are apart. Best reason to do things yourself, take your time and pay attention to the little details. But if it was easy, it wouldn't be fun!
