Default Help for a newbie..........Rear Hatch Problems

Hello All-

I am not a newbie with the car - just to this forum. I have always had problems with the rear hatch. The only way I can open it is with the manual cable. Days here can turn nasty really quick - so I would like to carry the targa top with me - but it is impossible to do as things are now - and that really limits my fun on those ify days. When I press either button (key fob or console) I can hear the mechanism clicking - but it will not open the hatch....any suggestions on where to start first?

Thanks
c4shadow

bad shocks ?
way to test..... open the hatch put it half way up does it fall back down? when you hit the hatch button the shocks should open the hatch with out you touching anything.

common problem not to hard to fix. or costly either!

Ummm, what year Corvette???

When you press the button do you hear the solenoid?
Do you have a hatch release button on either door and one inside the console??

Hmmmm sounds like what my 86 did, it was the relay clicking and the solenoid was shot. I pulled the tray that is over the latch and disconnected the plug at the solenoid, had a friend push the button and checked for voltage, there was, when I ohmed the solenoid it was open idicating it was shot, replaced it and all is well. Just my thoughts.

If the hatch pops right open when you pull the cable, the shocks are ok. As someone else said, check the solenoid operation.

Default Thank you.

Sounds like the solenoid is bad.
When I pull the manual cable it pops right open - no problem.
So - I will look into replacing it.
It's a '94

Thanks All!
