Poll: Ext. Duty Chain Users: Why Upgraded?
Not trying to bash the ED chain set here. Just wondering whether the LT1 stock set would work for me.
So, Did you upgrade because:
1) The LT1 chain is known(many occurances) to SNAP if revving to 6100 rpm on moded engine in drag racing? Road course use?
2) Same for LT4 stock chain or gears?
3) The LT1 chain is known to have a lot of SLACK after say 50 k mi? This with the stock car?
4) For a 400 hp or more engine, street use, just doesn't seem like a good chain.
5) Wanted the best. ED chain good to 7,000 rpm and even though that is not what your engine does, wanted the best equipment.
Thanks for replies! (esp. 94STL--already replied to that other thread--I wanted to get more responses quick!)

Even at 20k miles, my stock LT1 timing chain had more play than I was comfotable with. The Cloyes double roller chain was so snug, at first I didn't think it would fit.

I upgraded to the coyles double roller chain and converted to an electric pump. Mine was streched alot but had 99,000 miles on it. Since I was doing the electric pump it was cheaper. Also I feel with heavy springs the stress is going to be more so the potiental to break or strech is greater.

Isn't the stock LT4 timing chain made by Cloyes?

Probably, but the Extreme Duty is much bigger/stronger. Search the archives...someone (Chris, I think) posted comparison pics of the two chain sets.
