I have a new miniram 383 and I am haveing a few problems. First my timeing is way off. I have tried to set the timeing on the distributor for base and for total timeing. If I have initial timeing set at 10 degrees the total will be at only 18-20. I have ran it up to 15 base and that came up with 24-25 total, at this setting or higher the car reves good but knocks at low rpms but revvs verry good. My car is an '85. I have just a replacement accel distibutor that was in the car before the 383, and I have no experience deeling with the distributor/timeing except for moveing the distributor to get more base or more total timeing. I had no problems when it was a 350 but now I don't know what to do. Is there some sort of adjustment like the old style. I have moved the distributor 1 tooth over to see if it was off but it didn't get any better.
The second thing is the tackometer is off. I have the original and an analog autometer that has been in the car for a long time. At about 3,000 on the autometer the digital is at 4,000 or so.
If you could help, let me know. I also have a custom chip by Jessey Azzato, mabe he will chime in and help. My car is not running near its potential and it is frusterating after a year and a half of not running it.

When you're setting the timing are you unplugging the EST wire? This takes the ECU out of the loop and allows you to set the base timing with no interference from the computer. From there you set the base just like you would a normal distributor. The ECU's chip has a programmed amount of advance and that is added to the base; if your base is sat at 10 and the chip's advance is 30 then you have 40 degrees total...
If you've taken the above steps and are still having a problem then most likely you have a mechanical problem. Either your distributor is off a tooth, or your cam is off.

I am disconecting the ecu and I am not getting any more advancement when I reconnect it. I guess I need to get ahold of Azzato chips and see if he can help.
