Default intake/heads combo?

i want to switch intakes. my dilema is that i dont know which combo would make better hp and tq. should i go with a superram manifold and plenum, or a superram intake with vortec heads and manifold? which is a better combo? also, where vortec tpi systems are concerned, which is better; the scoggin-dickie or the edelbrock?

Start running searches in the archives for all of these things, and you'll find more than you can read.

I would not use vortec heads at all. Just use the SR plenum/base with some other aluminum aftermarket head like TFS, AFR, Dart Pro 1, or some ported '113s.

What engine is it going onto?
What will be the mods package?

Look at the flow numbers at max valve lift available for each set of heads and at the intake flow numbers and match things up.

I would get your setup off of a proven combo.

SR/190/195 AFR heads is pretty tough to beat.

Brodix has some new heads out now in the 180-190cc range, which look real good.

Its all about airflow. Heads are where the power is made. Rule of thumb is to keep the smallest intake volume as possible and get enough flow. Go too large on the intake cc, it will be a dog. Smaller is better than too big.

i think these are the ones, 180cc:

http://www.brodix.com/RR%20180.html

summitracing offers these at $1329/pr for the 67cc version, i'm sure the 64cc version could be ordered thru them for the same price. you'll probably want them milled down a bit though (coupla extra hundred $$)

That would be them. They are not too bad of heads for middle of the road, with some decent performance potential. I have not done an apples to apples comparison with any other heads, but AFR 190 heads were out of the box at 260CFM. These are 180cc heads at 24X CFM, with a much smaller port. These should build some nice velocity and some nice power for a 350-383 inch motor.
