I tried the search, but couldn't find anything on this specific problem:
I have a bronze/clear Astro top (I know, don't start with me on that ). It's actually been fine for the past few years. However, I recently noticed that the glass is starting to separate from the frame in the back. The weatherstripping is all fine, the frame is solid, and there are no cracks in the glass.
I called melrose and they said it would be about $100 to reglue the glass to the frame. I was wondering if anyone has "tried this at home." I'm not trying to be overly cheap, but if it's something I can do relatively easy, I'm up for it. It's my second top anyway, so I'm not in a hurry.
I tried black auto silicon but it didn't hold. I'm pretty sure it can be done, you just need to figure out what kind of glue to use. I laid a 2x4 across the bottom and used these trigger type clamps to hold it down while it dried, but again you need to find the right type of glue. I haven't tried any others yet.
There is a product called Weld-On it is an acryllic glue I used it to repair a crack in mine and it is stronger than the plastic. You will need a Hypo syringe to use it an a little goes a looong way but it should do the trick.Use google to find it.
I bet Melrose uses this.
