Is there a way to tell by driving if the torque converter is locking and unlocking as it should?

Watch the tach as you slowly increase speed and you will see the RPM drop at lockup.

Also tap the brake pedal just after lockup, while slowly increasing speed, and you should see the RPM jump up when it unlocks.

You CAN feel this.Slowly accelerate in 4th and tap the brake with your left foot. You can feel the locking and unlocking. As far as tach use your ear you can hear the difference.
