Default How do you know when your head unit needs servicing?

Just got back from a drive and noticed my car is making a loud screeching noise up front. The noise sounds like a wet belt and it comes on and off when driving.

When I first heard it, i thought it was because my belt was wet from the BOV spraying meth on it but that's not the case. It does it when the meth is not on and it sounds like it is coming from the head unit.

The car still drives good and I am getting full boost. So how do I know if it is my head unit?

Paul,

Have you checked the oil in your head unit ( I forget if you have a self-contained unit)? If it is clean and OK, the next step is to take the belt off and rotate the pulley by hand and see if you get any irregular noises. For example, see if you hear any grinding or feel any intermittent "drags" as you turn the input shaft. Take a real close look at your belt to make sure that it's OK. If you have any doubts send the head unit back to Procharger for an examination. It's better to be safe than sorry should that baby lets go at full throttle...

Good Luck,

Tony

You could ruin the impeller by it hitting the turbine housing under throttle. Obviously thsi will be more expensive than a simple refresh. I suppose you could also harm the housing as well.

Tony is right......I had my procharger bearings fail.....sounded like a power steering pump howling and gets louder with time...the unit was brand new so I was looking every where else but the supercharger...finely removed the belt and turned the shaft by hand...it was hard to turn and loose.

Were you still getting full boost? How was the car driving?
The thing is, my car drives perfect! So I am not sure if its the blower.

I have a custom pulley setup for my car and it only started doing it after the new setup. The car drives fine and the noise only stays on for seconds at a time.

The sound is a loud screeching sound not a humming sound.

I will check it out soon.

Thanks guys.

Paul

It never stoped making noise.....kind of like the howl they make normaly only louder....sounds like you have a differrant and hopefully cheaper problem....give that shaft a twist by hand, should spin as easly as an alternator.
